Wilmcote CofE (Voluntary Aided) Primary School, Church Road, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire, CV37 9XD, UK
Welcome to our school
2016 was a great 400th anniversary year for Shakespeare. To mark that moment, Ex Cathedra, with partners the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and the Shakespeare Institute commissioned one of Britain’s best-known composers, Sally Beamish to write a c.40-minute setting for a new Shakespeare Ode written by the Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy.
This new commission was performed by Ex Cathedra for the first time in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon, followed by performances in Birmingham, London and across the Midlands.
The vision was for the new Ode to reflect our own times, or own reactions to Shakespeare and what he means for us today. It is an inclusive, dramatic and participatory piece, written for children and adult choirs and an English ‘broken consort’ of instruments Shakespeare would recognise.
It was a wonderful opportunity for children to:
The rehearsals, led by Rebecca Ledgard from Ex Cathedra, were lovely to listen to and the children thoroughly enjoyed them.

Carol Ann Duffy, Poet Laureate, has said that the premiere was the best day of her whole life!
Rob Chilinor & Rebecca Ledgard - Ex Cathedra, "I shall really miss going in to work with the Wilmcote children." because we enjoyed working with the Wilmcote children as much as we have ever enjoyed working with any children. They were a real credit to the school. It was wonderful to work with such joyous, happy, sensible, well behaved children who are also such fun - and they sing beautifully! Wilmcote primary school is a very special school. The fact that my daughter is part of Wilmcote is something I feel very, very lucky about.
